Cost of living
It is well known that the cost of living in Hong Kong is high. When combined with high salaries, some of the highest in the world, and low taxes, expats can generally live comfortably in the city.

Finding a place to live
Rent is high. Space is small. But don’t let this put you off. There are new buildings being built all the time and although the demand for housing is high, so is the supply. There are many options for expats, just be prepared to look at a number of apartments. Don’t choose an apartment too quickly, as there is a tendency for some agents to show the less suitable apartments first.

Getting around in Hong Kong
The public transport rate exceeds 90% in Hong Kong, which is the highest in the world. Needless to say, the city has a very efficient, clean and reliable public transport system. Taxis are also cheap when compared to other expat cities.

Domestic help
Be prepared to work long hours in Hong Kong. But this does not come at the expense of your personal life. Domestic help is very affordable and most expats employ the services of maids to assist in domestic duties.

Hong Kong is a very transient city. Expats are constantly coming and going. The expat community is small and very tight knit. You will be warmly welcomed into the community and quickly become a veteran.
