Giving For Expats Living In Singapore

Regarded as a banking hub, with a thriving economy, tropical climate and picturesque views, Singapore attracts many expats each year.

Having spent time in Singapore some expats may consider “giving back” to their now local Singaporean community. Charity in Singapore takes various forms.

The tax status of charity giving depends on the type of donation and the charity. Money donated to an approved “Institution of Public Character” or given to the Singaporean government for causes that benefit the local community are tax deductible.

There are other forms of giving which do not involve money, but supplies of goods and services as a volunteer and organiser. For example, “Food from the Heart” is a charity providing food and other support services to those in need. The food provided is either purchased with monies donated or food donated by the general public for distribution.

Many Ways to Give

“Transient Workers Count Too” is a charity which provides meals and other volunteer support to transient workers suffering from poor living conditions and cultural displacement.

The Expatland Giving Back Foundation is a facilitator of labour, supplies and other needs to help charities. The Foundation can guide an expat in deciding which charity or not for profit organisation in Singapore best suits an expats objective in giving.
